Humanoid Erotica
by Kingsley MarshallFive Deez geezer, Dimensia label manager, and all-round ample -- both literally and figuratively -- sound physician Fat Jon turns on the care conditioning in his Ohio studio for another set of smokers delights. Like his Wave Motion full-length for Mush, Jon slides right into the Counterflow catalog with a barrage of emotive instrumental hip-hop skits -- each so gentle the album is over before you know it. Think Pete Rock in the ring with Josh Davis, or Portishead's Geoff Barrow fencing with 3D from Massive Attack, Jon stretches the hip-hop covers over everything from the overheard conversation which introduces the cinematic orchestration of "At the Bar," though downbeat and more slick yet slow grooves, before picking up the pace with the occasional house flex -- the instrumentals break at the last minute with Deez machine gunning lyrics out over the closing "Pretty Pussy Kitty Kat." Beats for the more introspective jeep.
