Fracture [Original Motion Picture Score]
by Jason Ankeny Brothers Mychael and Jeff Danna reunite for the thriller score Fracture, which embraces the familiar elements of the genre -- i.e, icy-cool synthesizer textures, dense orchestral arrangements, and propulsive electronic rhythms -- but boasts enough stylistic twists and melodic turns to set itself apart from the norm. The Dannas quickly and effectively establish Fracture's moody, enigmatic signatures via off-kilter piano, melancholy cello, and vibraphone, channeling the spirit of classic film noir but updating the formula with enough programmed elements to firmly entrench the music in the 21st century. The tension between past and present further cements the score's otherness, especially compared with the series of palpably physical action themes that dominate its climactic sequence.
