Diaries
As the opening song off the Diaries EP plays out, the crashing cymbals and reverberating chimes set a relaxed atmosphere for the listener to immerse themselves in. The chopped, trippy tracks are reminiscent of early Bonobo or US bedroom producer Clams Casino. 19 year old Dublin based producer Jack Colleran, also known as MMOTHS, finds a way to make his music calm as well as powerful, somehow leaving the listener completely relaxed and entirely focused at the same time. The collaboration tracks For Her (Ft. Young & Sick) and All These Things (Ft. Holly Miranda) are the highlights here. The smooth and dreamy voice of Holly Miranda is really moving, sticking with a feeling of mystery and discovery that the album really seems to enforce. “I didn’t want to learn from someone else. I like discovering things on my own. I want to experience it on my own.” explains Jack on his SQE Music biography. The honeyed, glossy track featuring LA based R&B newcomer Young & Sick really shows off the range and variety in talent on the EP. MMOTHS manages to wrap his backing track around the vocals, saturating them in bass and turning this into a beautiful collaboration. However don’t take anything away from the individual talent and promise that this young producer holds, his solo tracks are the foundations on which the EP stands. No One, for example, takes the listener on a journey; it really feels like you have been given the tools to interpret it in your own way, once again embracing the theme of exploration and discovery. This EP feels like an exhibition of talent from up and coming artists and shows what incredible tracks can be produced when they team up and work together. Plug in your headphones, make yourself comfortable and discover what Diaries and MMOTHS have to offer.
