That'll Work
by Thom Owens With That'll Work, the Kentucky Headhunters made their blues-rock roots explicit by working with legendary pianist Johnnie Johnson, which is both for better and worse. They certianly can work a heavy, bluesy groove with dexterity, but they lack the gonzo charm they had on their debut, Pickin' On Nashville -- there simply isn't the sense of careening fun, nor is there the reckless fusions that resulted in such an invigorating listen. What's left is enjoyable and competent, but not particularly special.
