Age Ain't Nothin' But a Number
by Ron Wynn"Little Milton" Campbell made an excellent modern blues/soul album for MCA in the early '80s that languished due to inaedquate promotional efforts. The failure of Age Ain't Nothin' But a Number convinced Campbell to move to Malaco. Mobile Fidelity's recent remastered CD reissue of this underrated session provides a perfect sonic framework for Milton's taut, tantalizing and nicely executed guitar, soulful, often biting vocals, and solid arrangements and songs. The title cut was a mild hit, one of the last times Milton reached the R&B charts, while other numbers such as "Why Are You So Hard To Please," "Don't Leave Me," and "Living On The Dark Side Of Love" were as expertly crafted as any of his best Chess dates.
