Welcome to the world of male voices! The Scandinavian tradition of male university choruses is 200 years old and based on the students' political involvement and the male societies in the beginning of the 19th century. As a young, modern choir, we strive to continue the tradition and heritage of our predecessors together with contemporary music. Thus, this recording presents songs by one of the most popular and most sung Swedish poets of all time, Carl Michael Bellman (1740-1795), in cautious and congenial translations into English by Paul Britten Austin, together with substantial contemporary songs by e.g. the British composer Bob Chilcott and the poet W.H. Auden. Linköpings Studentsångare - in English, is our fifth recording and we are happy to introduce our listeners to both well-known music, and some newer never before recorded.
