Sun Bronzed Greek Gods
"One of the subjects touched on in Ryan Dombal's conversation with the eponymous leader of Dom was the similarities between his band and Girls-- troubled backgrounds, slacker personas, and an affinity for drugs, to name a few. Another trait both acts have in common is their ability to move effortlessly between moods and feelings, as demonstrated on Dom's debut EP, "Sun Bronzed Greek Gods". We've already seen their sassy side with the effervescent "Living In America", but the "Hong Kong Garden"-meets-Cloud City number "Burn Bridges" shows a real feel for heartbreak. Not that you can initially tell, of course-- this is still on the lower end of lo-fi, and it takes more than a few listens to think that Dom is singing anything other than "Beau Bridges" during the chorus. Worth the time, though, to figure out what the actual lyrics are: "Burn bridges/ Make yourself an island/ Just forgive 'em/ And forget 'em." A bitter and brittle sentiment that, when wrapped in a gauzy, synth-strewn melody like this one, damn near turns into an anthem." This is the release everyone will be talking about in 2010. 20 minutes of pure genius from Worcester locals. Perfect music for rolling up to the beach in your Ford Bronco with no top, scopin' out the bikini babez (snag a pic for papa), and riding llamas.
