Gran Omar & Rey Severo have been making music since 1991 doing house parties in Brooklyn with open mic and MC battles till 1994 when they moved to PR and became part of the underground reggaeton scene in 1995 when the first recorded songs were released on the album series The Noise 5, 6 and Live along with producer Dj Negro. The group was called Ruff Society and had their first say on The Noise 5 with the song -Busco una gial- feat. -El Cientifico- recorded on one of -Born Jamericans- greatest hit beats and done in spanish. During this time they also introduced Ivy Queen to Dj Negro and she was made part of the Group with the song -Quieren tumbarme- used in the video to promote the album. Producer Dj Negro was running the club -The Noise- former -Copa Cabana- in P.R. and wanted to record a promotional track between his new artists -Gran Omar, Rey Severo and Ivy Queen- to heat up the scene and get the streets to talk about them. The track was recorded on the hit beat used in albums Noise 3 & 4 -Sierra los ojos bien- by Baby Rasta & Gringo. The song recorded on the hit beat featured -Gran Omar, Rey Severo and Ivy Queen- called -Amor no te vayas- and was considered so good it was decided to be on the album and not just used for the promotion of the groups debut. That was in the 1995 album The Noise vol. 5 by Dj Negro The group continued to make music in Noise Vol. 6 with the song -Yo cante- featuring just Gran Omar & Rey Severo while Ivy Queen performed -Reggae Respect- also used on the video promotion. Later on the album -Noise Vol. Live- Gran Omar & Rey Severo singing -Yo cante- once again and the group all together during Ivy Queens performance amping up the crowd with men and women battles. Those were albums The Noise 6 by Dj Negro and The Noise Live by Dj Negro Various production cooperations by Gran Omar & Rey Severo were then seen and heard like album -Rappers II- with the song -Original Songboy- where they featured old school singer -Camaleon- known for his dancehall style, then album -Sueños de Destruccion- by Great hip hop artists -Memo & Vale- where -Gran Omar sang along with Baby Rasta & Gringo in a feat with Memo & Vale-. The album -Dj Joe 3 aplastando- where Rey Severo participated in a sample mix, then album -Darwins Da Music- collaborating with Dj Gold-D on the song -Parate y ve- , later the album -Illusion- with Dj Candyboy where Gran Omar & Rey Severo shared the cover with -Mexicano- and -Camaleon- . Then album -Romances del ruido II- with -Baby Rasta & Gringo- also the album by -Mc Cejas- called -Boriquas state of Mind- and other great productions making their mark showing they can make awesome music between all the greats when in these same albums performed Daddy Yankee, Mexicano, Hector & Tito, Falo, Don Chezina, Ruben Sam and much more. Gran Omar & Rey Severo were going up in the industry and becoming very known as Ruff Society. In the Illusion album Gran Omar & Rey Severo shared the cover with Mexicano, Camaleon, Dj Candy Boy and his new artists. The album also featured veterans Daddy Yankee, Alberto Style, Bebe and Rey Pirin among others. The group then made a big step with the first full Ivy Queen album -En Mi Imperio- working with Dj Nelson and artists like Notty Boy, Memo & Vale, Camaleon and others. Gran Omar & Rey Severo even acted out characters in the albums interludes apart from their songs. Gran Omar also Wrote some of the songs Ivy Queen performed on the album. While touring and performing through the Latin communities of the US and internationally across Panama, Dominican Republic and others, the group split when Rey Severo had his first child, a girl named Krischelle, daughter of his former wife Michelle. He made the decision of comitting full time to his family leaving the music scene behind him. Later he had another child, a boy named Kenneth, son of his second former wife Mariela. Gran Omar continued working in music and moved on to become a producer building an excellent career for Ivy Queen. Starting with the album -Original Rude Girl- which featured artists like Wy-Clef, Wepa Man, Alex De Castro and more making Ivy Queen a crossover artist and Gran Omar known as one of the best producers in PR again writting songs with Ivy and partaking in the album. The song with Wy-Clef was used for the promotion of the album in the video where Gran Omar drives an exotic car with Wy-Clef a black Lamburghinni Diablo. The scene was shot because in the song Clef mentions "hanging with Omar, a puertorican with a lamburghini." They really did a number on the car. Ask Clef if he still has the handle to the emergency brake. To keep it hot on the scene Gran Omar gave a huge participation with Diamond Music's owner -Ivan Joy- in the albums -Kilates- where he sang along side Ivy in the video performing the hit song -Yo quiero saber- known for the -tra tra tra en la disco- frase used by Gran Omar and later participation on the album -Majestic- where Ivy performed -Yo quiero bailar- Making sure the Queen stayed at the top Gran Omar Executively produced the album -Diva- featuring K-7, Mexicano, Bimbo and of course Gran Omar himself for the song -Guillaera- used for the video promoting the album. The song was about flosin, you know gettin the pimpin down. Here is a Cool fact: (About $4,000 were in Gran Omar's hands during the shooting of his cut in the video.) Another cool fact is : (With the album Gran Omar established the record label -Imperio Music- with Gran Omar as President and Ivy Queen as Vice President of their company.) In 2003 Rey Severo made a come back and recorded the song -Dime si sientes- on the album -Reggaethong- having a totaly different style singing in low tones. He was seen for the first time in years on tv in the album's infomercial promo and photographed on the back of the cd with the credits. In 2004 the album -Real- featuring artists like Fat Joe, Hector El Father, Getto, Gastan and great female artist La India was released under the label -Imperio Music- as the labels second album with Gran Omar as executive producer once again proving to be innovative in the reggaeton industry. Gran Omar once again, to maintain the flow of heat performed with Ivy in the album -Majestic II- with the song -Los Sicarios- giving the industry a taste of the urban ghettoness flow. Coming back to New York in 2005 with one of NYC's finest Tony Touch, Gran Omar & Ivy get together and make the song -Saca la semilla- for the album -Reggaetony- having international success. After ten years of success Gran Omar & Ivy Queen broke up, as you all know in 2005. The relationship break up resulted in business break up as well. The label Imperio Music was closed after the unfortunate parting of seperate ways. Gran Omar decided he would create a new music empire along side his blood brother Rey Severo coming back into the scene. With a new style of music Gran Omar & Rey Severo are bringing new flavor to the reggaeton industry so be aware of upcoming albums that have been in the making during all this time when fanatics have been wondering what will Gran Omar & Rey Severo come up with next.
