Dr. T & the Women
by Richie UnterbergerThe score to the 2000 Robert Altman film about the chaotic life of a Dallas gynecologist features a largely instrumental score by Lovett. There are just three vocals here, among them a remake of "Ain't It Somethin'," leaving the rest to be occupied by 13 instrumentals. It's ordinary, perhaps a bit above-average incidental soundtrack music, jumping from subdued themes and jazzy lounge sounds to hoe-down jazzy bluegrass and items that sound like barroom odes sans words ("Golf Cart Love"). A very minor, even forgettable entry in the discography of Lovett (who, if you're wondering, does not appear as an actor in the film, although he has acted in other Altman-directed movies).
