Andre Tanker Wild
Andre Tanker a singer/ musician/ composer now deceased (died on February 28th 2003)is often compared to Bob Dylan and Bob Marley. His very unique style of Caribbean World Music that fused many genres for example Afro/ Indian and Latin styles hasmade him one of the Caribbean\'s most famous artistes and he is known world wide for hits such as Sayamanda, BasementParty Forwrad Home and Ben Lion. This Multi talented artiste composed music for many plays and Films in Trinidad, the Caribbean and The World. In 1972he composed for Dereck Walcott\'s Ti Jean and His Brothers (Done for Shakespeare in Central Park) in 1993 he composed the music for Play Boy of The West Indies performed at The Lincoln Centre in New York and the music for Shakespeare\'s measure For Measure performed in central Park starring Kevin Kline and Blair Underwood. He also did the musical scores for movies like Bim in 1974, What My Mother Told Me (A Trinidad/ British Film aired on UK Television in 1994 and lots more. He and his band The One World Contra Band performed all over the world and even did a special series called Jazz in The Sun that aired on the BET on Jazz Channel in the United States and there are many more. Andre tanker\'s unique compositions are often studied in Universities all around the world including The University of The West Indies and Trinity College in Hartford Conneticuit.The year of his untimely death Andre Tanker actually had students from trinity College who had come to Trinidad to study the music and culture and had to be graded as part of their degree. Andre has a huge library of music and an amazing legacy that his family will cherish and continue to carry on.
