Fresh off the back of his successful ‘101’ EP on Playground Records, Cosmonostro presents a collection of forward-thinking beats to bring some sunshine into these dark days, courtesy of UK up-and-comer Daktyl. From start to finish, ‘Chase Road’ provides us with a masterclass on how to keep people moving with a smile on their face. Combining cosmic synth stabs with disco-tinged vocal hooks and skittering percussion, there’s not a dull moment to be found on the whole EP. ‘Promises I Need To Keep’ builds from sparse marimba hooks and a swung 2-step beat into an ecstatic spaced-out house breakdown oozing with soul, whilst ‘Feel The Way You Do’ showcases Daktyl’s mastery of pop sensibilities without ever sounding tasteless. Where so many producers take on the house sound and fall into the same old played-out conventions, Daktyl shows how to keep things fresh and captivating whilst not compromising its accessibility – Expect to hear a great deal more from this Midlands native in 2014.
