Orange Music, Vol. 2: Anatomy
A follow up to her critically acclaimed “Orange Music Vol 1: Water & Light” the disc continues the themes of empowerment and vulnerability. “Anatomy” is a collection that looks beneath the surface at the common experience of pain and the many ways people deal with it: the despair and isolation found in the opening solo acoustic track “Jenny,” defiance and confrontation in the Nirvana-esque rocker “Backside,” the reach for whole-hearted self-acceptance found in New Orleans funk/jazz influenced “Rare Bird,” and the relief in redemption found in the gospel cover version of Cajun songwriter Gina Forsyth’s “Sparrows.” Musicians on the recording include Lilli Lewis on piano and vocals with her wife, Liz Hogan on guitar and harmonica. Other musicians include Wade Hymel (drums, bass, guitar), Joy Clark (lead guitar), Ole Oddlokken (tenor sax), Will Laird (bass), and Ryan Murray (percussion). Recorded at Bare Sounds (Ponchatoula, LA), Sanctuary Studios and The Music Shed (New Orleans, LA) by TJ Barends, Lilli Lewis, and Ben Lorio.
