Ao Vivo
by Alvaro Neder This is another of the cult albums by the baianos Maria Bethânia and her brother Caetano Veloso. Recorded live in 1977, the strong fusion sonorously packages excellent tunes, such as "Carcará" (sung by Veloso because Bethânia had so much success interpreting it in the Opinião show that she became associated with protest songs, a tag she was determined to drop), "João e Maria" (beautiful valse by Chico Buarque performed in 6/8 and a bit more aggressively than one would expect), "Número Um" (another delicious valse from the old radio days), "O Que Tinha de Ser" (Tom Jobim/Vinícius de Moraes), "Adeus Santo Amaro" (Caetano Veloso), and "Maninha" (Chico Buarque), among others. The album is affectionately regarded by the fans of both artists.
