Paper Crown - EP
From the loins of some of Seattle’s most fondly and fuzzily-remembered bands springs a virile new creation…the mighty STAG. Longtime Seattle rock statesman Ben London (Alcohol Funnycar, Sanford Arms, Burning Rivers) writes the songs. Golden-voiced perma-lad Steve Mack (That Petrol Emotion, Anodyne) sings ‘em. Fellow veterans Pete Everett (The Mellors, Tuffy), Rob Dent (Jackie on Acid, Kingsley, Sanford Arms), and Lincoln Barr (Red Jacket Mine) lend their talents on bass, drums, and guitar, respectively. Stag’s stellar debut EP These Times Are For All Of Us released late 2010 was highly regarded and entered rotation on KEXP, ultimately landing in the top 40 of the station’s Variety music charts. In addition to the band performing on John Richard’s morning show, the song These Times was featured as KEXP’s Song of the Day on the December 3, 2010 podcast, and the EP was selected as DJ Kevin Cole’s “Great 2010 Debuts.” An auspicious beginning indeed! Fresh off the heels of performances at SXSW, Stag has once again emerged from Soundhouse Studios with a new batch of songs recorded by Northwest rock legend Jack Endino. With its second release Paper Crown, the band continues its tradition of high-energy, hook-filled American rock music that is sure to please. In 2010, Stag started a quarterly show/party/show hybrid called Stag’s Rock and Roll Circus. The driving principle was to blur the lines between the bands with short sets, some shared gear, impromptu collaborations, elephants poised on giant balls, all making for a unique and engaging evening. The events have been highly successful, with the fourth installment coming in July 2011. In addition to regular club gigs, Stag will be performing at the Triple Door in Seattle, WA with punk rock legend Mike Watt and headlining KEXP’s Audioasis show benefitting the Nature Consortium at the Sunset Tavern in Ballard, WA.
