Isis
In 1973 equal rights for women was still a dream. Equal talent, however was not. With all the talk in those days about the all-woman band Fanny, what were people thinking? Sure, Fanny was good - no doubt - but Isis was great! Great and certainly underappreciated. With their no holds barred approach to bluesy soul and funk and their undeniable sense of soaring ballads, this was the future of rock'n'roll - ignored. Just listen to "Everybody Needs a Forever" or "She Loves Me" for samples of their sensitivity. Or check out "Waiting For the Sonrise" to see how they cook. Could it have been that because this was not only the first all woman band who could rock but the first gay woman band that Isis failed to be a hit? Hmmmm! Well, it was more than 30 years ago - after all. Thank goodness we've changed. And thank goodness for Isis. - Dean Sciarra - ItsAboutMusic.com
