Stay Crazy Love
Asylum Confidential is the label of the internationally recognized club Asylum Afterhours (one of the top clubs in the world according to DJ Mag each year). Founded in Honolulu, Hawaii, Asylum is known for bringing the best techno and house to the beautiful island, and now the imprint will act as an extension of the music being played at Asylum. Releases will feature original music from Asylum residents along with remixes from some of the many guests who have graced the decks over the years, starting off with an EP from Higher Concept complete with remixes from Alphahouse boss and Crosstown Rebels associate Butane and Mexa's Corey Baker. Higher Concept is an esteemed resident at Asylum club and has been involved in sound design, engineering, producing and more for years. Here he teams up with Willis Haltom, fellow resident and someone who has remixed for Get Physical and appeared on the Riff Raff label. First up is ?Stay Crazy Love', a woozy, colourful house cut somewhere between Hot Creations and Crosstown Rebels. Some classic sampling and late night cheekiness pervade the sultry groove and some whispered breakdowns help create an atypical feel to the track overall. US born London based producer Corey Baker ?' who has released solo on Mexa and with Richy Ahmed on Black Strobe ?' turns in the remix. It's a slow paced, wobble joint with charming synths and innocent percussion that makes you smile a wry smile, it seems that cheeky and quirky. The other original is ?Night Time Kiss', another strained and mildly tortured sounding cut of colourful tones, bendy synths and outer space intrigue. The bobbling beats are tight and dark, the synths up top much more colourful, and together they make for an interesting combination. Dark techno and minimal man Butane then sets to work stripping it right back to its bare bones. The result is an unsettling, dark and meandering track Villalobos might employ in the depths of fabric to a great reception. The first EP from this label suggests it will be one to watch in the future, and not only that, but that the club behind it all is surely worth a visit some time soon!
