Songs of Experience (feat. Fulvio Sigurta',Joao Lobo)
Francesco Turrisi - piano (compositions) Fulvio Sigurta' – trumpet and flugelhorn Joao Lobo - drums “Songs of Experience” is the third album by Italian (Dublin resident) pianist Francesco Turrisi released from his own label Taquin records. Turrisi presents a very original and international trio that features Italy's young rising star Fulvio Sigurta' on trumpet and talented Portuguese drummer Joao Lobo. All the music is written by Turrisi and is a blend of contemporary European jazz influenced by early Baroque music and Mediterranean traditional music. The compositions are spacious, melodic and dramatic at times, and the performance of this bass-less trio is characterized by the interplay between the musicians and the freedom with which they approach these simple yet poignant melodies. Francesco Turrisi has been defined a “musical alchemist” and a “musical polyglot” by the press. He left his native Italy in 1997 to study jazz piano and early music at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, where he obtained a Bachelor and a Master’s degree. Since 2004 he has been collaborating with celebrated early music ensemble L'Arpeggiata. With l'Arpeggiata he has performed at the major early music festivals in Europe and around the world (Turkey, Russia, China) and has recorded for Virgin, Naive and Alpha. Francesco is also the leader and founder of many successful Irish and International groups that experiment pushing the boundaries of contemporary jazz, world music and early music, such as Sarabanda, Tarab, T.R.E., Gato Azul and Zahr. His vast range of collaborations includes artists from jazz, world and early music such as: Dave Liebman, Gianluigi Trovesi, Nils Landgren, Gabriele Mirabassi, Savina Yannatou, Maria Pia de Vito, Misia, Theodosii Spassov, The King’s Singers, Veronique Gens, Philippe Jaroussky, Pepe el Habichuela, Lucilla Galeazzi, Bijan Chemirani.
