Seadrift Soundmachine
Singer-songwriter Blaudzun, aka Johannes Sigmond, finished his new album. The recordings, confirmed to be called Seadrift Soundmachine, will be released on February 22, 2010 and follows the high acclaimed debut from the Dutchman. According to sources, including VPRO’S 3VOOR12, this album will be a clash between turbulence and beauty. “The songs on this record were washed up on my beach after a terrible shipwreck”, Blaudzun describes. In september he finished recording during sessions with The City of Prague Orchestra, known for its filmscores (Das Leben Der Anderen, Lost Highway). Blaudzun wrote most of the songs in Barcelona and recorded in different studios in the Netherlands, including Dufry and Mailmen. The first single taken from the new album is called ‘Quiet German Girls’ and will be out in january 2010. Together with his brother Jakov (guitars), Michiel van Elk (accordeon), Franc Timmerman (bass, percussion) and ex-El Pino & The Volunteers drummer Wouter de Waart, Blaudzun starts touring again in 2010. Biography Singer-songwriter Blaudzun, named after an unknown Danish cyclist, writes dreamy songs, wrapped in sober arrangements that through his remarkable voice and the haunting melodies get an almost ecstatic atmosphere. In 2007 he worked on a special collection of songs, originally intended to be a soundtrack for a midnight car drive. Critics and music fans have labelled his self-titled debut (2008) as a surprising and wonderful debut. OOR Magazine: ‘Breathtaking and astonishing debut. Blaudzun is an authentic talent with great international potential’ NU.nl: ‘Beautiful and dramatic songs’ MusicMaker: ‘Disc of the Month!’ In 2008 and 2009 Blaudzun did a lot of shows and festivals including Metropolis 2008 and a clubtour with Norwegian artist Ane Brun.
