This Girl Don't Care

This Girl Don't Care

Alicia Bridges was born in Charlotte, North Carolina and grew up in a nearby rural community, the small town of Lawndale, NC. She began to write songs and play guitar at the age of ten years old, after her father Myles Bridges taught Alicia to strum her first chords on his Gibson tenor guitar. Both parents encouraged her musical talent as art appreciation, but were not supportive of music as a profession. Although the Bridges family was known for a long tradition of musical ability, her parent’s strongly discouraged Alicia’s pursuing a career in music. They quickly found out that their headstrong daughter was not going to be stopped. At the age of twelve, Alicia had launched her own radio program in Shelby, NC on station WADA. Her show, "The Alicia Bridges Show", aired every Saturday morning. This was actually her first gig as a DJ. Alicia planned the show, took requests, played her favorite tunes, and secured ads that she read on the air. From time to time, she would even play her guitar and belt out tunes, ‘live’, while the on duty disc jockey manned the sound controls. The "Alicia Bridges Show" became a, 'regular', on WADA and was well received throughout Cleveland County. At thirteen, Alicia was performing weekends and summers with a popular local band in the NC area. The group performed Blues tunes, Jazz, Rock, R&B, Country and Pop hits. She learned that every song possessed a unique quality based on the history and culture of the style. This was an early opportunity for Alicia to learn while performing with seasoned and accomplished professional musicians. Alicia attributes her love of versatile styles and all music to her early training ground. Shortly after graduating from High School and dissatisfied with her parents choice of colleges she could attend, Alicia would leave her family home for good. At first, she sang solo in Nightclubs, Inns, and any other gigs she could find. She later hit the road as the lead singer of the Zachary Ridge rock band performing in clubs, bars, and concert halls. Her travels would lead her to Nashville, Tenn. where she met record producer Gary Walker. Soon Gary introduced Alicia to the Southern iconic publishing mogul, the late Bill Lowery. Alicia would continue to play gigs and make appearances and as a solo artist and she continued to write songs, but she did not make the move to Atlanta until the mid seventies. Some have alleged that Alicia is from France and others have claimed that she was, "born and raised", in Atlanta. Not true. She has also never been a physical education teacher in Canada, but does have Canadian friends. Alicia is also not related to Lloyd, Beau, or Jeff Bridges; though she enjoys their films (especially Jeff’s acting). Rumors of Alicia's spinning records as a DJ in the Atlanta area are true. However, she was not ever an employee of, "The Otherside", women's bar that was bombed during the 1996 Olympic Games. Alicia was a DJ at the now defunct, “Sportspage", once the focal gathering place for Lesbians in the Southeast. She also was a DJ for, "The Eagle", a premier Men’s leather bar. Alicia enjoyed a long relationship with, “The Eagle", and "The, Sportspage", where she continued to spin her magic as a DJ. Alicia’s affiliation with, “The Eagle”, endeared her to the Gay Community. Alicia reciprocated their love by performing her dance single “I Love the Nightlife” at Gay Pride and Aids Charity events not only in the Atlanta area, but also throughout the US. Alicia currently resides in the Carolinas where she has begun another phase of her musical career. While she enjoys many artistic hobbies, her other true passion in life is animals. Alicia and her partner have made a home with a heart large enough to include a multitude of stray and castoff animals. Currently they are owned by 4 cats and 2 dogs, but have been loved by as many as 9 at one time. Alicia and her partner continue to write, mix, and now publish a wide variety of musical styles in their Studio FDXXcwp. With the release of the digitally remixed/re-mastered Compilation of, “This Girl Don’t Care”, Alicia Bridges steps to the forefront with ferocity and raw emotion. With shameless honesty and a biting attitude, she punches out the arrogance of cheaters and heartbreakers….and she takes you along through the spectrum to see these mockers get their due….with relentless intensity. To quote one of Alicia’s earlier songs, "Diamond In The Rough", she was always "different from the rest". This is a trait that has followed Alicia throughout her life; she has never really quite 'fit in' with any of her peer groups. However, there’s no angst on her new CD release. In her song, "I Regret It", she solidly states, “I don’t like you….anymore you….treat me like a….wholesale item,” followed by the comment, “but….that’s how it used to be”….perhaps meaning that seeing truth is better than sucking in the lies. “Bullets – Don’t Talk,” lyrics establish that, “You’re never gonna change me and make me be like you! You throw words at me and the words are the Bullets you use!”….and…”I’ve got to be myself you know….that’s all I really have!”, rather, who else would one be if not ‘being oneself’? “This Girl Don’t Care”, the title song from the CD emphatically states, “This girl don’t care about you ‘cause you don’t care about…care about me! Don’t care about what you do. Don’t care about who you see”….and a few lines later categorically proclaims, “Don’t care about yo’ face! This girl don’t care!” The attitude and delivery is aggressive assertion with a splash of craziness. There is never a tearful plea for reconciliation of any kind. Truth and fiction often enmesh in artistic creations, leaving the interpretation of fantasy and reality to the listener, as it should be. Nevertheless, there is a personal truth in Alicia’s music that simply can’t be denied.
