Dance On
For the second release on Birmingham's Seedy Records, Initial's back with a cracking 4 track of chunky tech cuts. Title track 'Dance On' is a broody piece of warehouse techno. Skippy, garage-inflicted drums play off of a cavernous, throbbing bassline and the pitched down vocals and eerie atmospheric noises combine to create one for the heads down, eyes closed massive. With 'The Way' Initial goes in on a sun-licked groovy tip. With its infectious funky snares, tick-tock hats, and its warm, enveloping dub bass this one comes like tropical techno from Berlin via Kingston and is bound to hot up the dancefloor this cold winter. Qualms is all about the slow rush, the fluttering percussion building up against the drawn out bass drones while swirling synths and stalactite beeps come together to build a dark euphoria. Emotional. Finally on Come Here, Mali's back joining Initial for a deeply weird and wonky number. Squelchy synths undulate and wobble across a super groovy, fuzzed out bassline and tight tech drums. At times sounding like a dubbed-out Doom's Night, at others like the communication of alien lifeforms, the sample tells us 'come dance to my groove' you're inclined to follow.
