20 Years of Concert Performances
Culled from a wide variety of sources, including radio broadcasts, 20 Years of Concert Performances by the New Lost City Ramblers is a treasure trove of music. Using Library of Congress archives of folk music and other sources too numerous to mention here, the New Lost City Ramblers have, in this release, allowed listeners to discover for the first time, or else reintroduced them to, songs long forgotten and nearly lost for all time. Traditional tunes such as "Turkey in the Straw," "Sally Goodin," and "On Some Foggy Mountain Top" are put alongside such nearly forgotten gems as "Country Blues," originally by Dock Boggs, Tom Ashley's "Dark Holler Blues," and the Carter Family's "Worried Man Blues," all to great effect. All of the 34 cuts here are a must for musicologists everywhere, and for the casual listener these same tracks provide a history lesson as to where so many of our contemporary artists have either learned their trades or discovered classics to rearrange. A truly inspirational disc.
