On One
by Marisa BrownThough he had been an important part of Bay Area hip-hop for a while, Keak da Sneak gained a bit more nationwide fame after the hyphy movement (a term he helped coin) began to spread across the US in 2006 (also helped by an appearance on DJ Shadow's album, The Outsider). On One shows more of his skills, with "The O," a tribute to his hometown, Oakland, "Like What," and "Get Doe." It has a bit of a rushed, mixtapey feel, with very little credit information, but the production's pretty decent and Keak sounds good, which is what really matters, anyway.
