Drumming Song Remixes
New York based imprint, Jyre Records returns in January with a remix package of Derek Marins Drumming Song, on remix duties are Elon, Modest D (an alias of Marin), Alicia Hush, Dick Diamonds and Jose Wated. Native New Yorker, Derek Marin has quite the back catalogue under his belt. Having released material on Get Physical, Siesta, Trapez Ltd, Plastic City and Thoughtless Music, its safe to say hes got the spark required for a fruitful career in the industry. So its no surprise to see his Drumming Song originally released on Roots & Wings, reworked for a killer package offered up via Jyre Records here. Dereks original mix kicks things off, a low-slung, soul-laden workout with growling bass tones and warm synth chords, a stunning mood-driven house cut to open the package. Up next the ever on-point Elon, known for his work with Dumb Unit and Made To Play steps up to remix Drumming Song, the drums take a bumpy, off-kilter approach, while stabby bass drives the bottom end. Then the signature Elon touches come into play with heavy processing of the vocals, sweeping synths and stuttering background atmospherics, as expected resulting in a refreshing outlook on the original. Canadas Alicia Hush turns in an interpretation next, the Roots & Wings artist delves into a darker territory with her mix, reshaping the vibe with an eerie, minimalistic feel which cleverly blooms and retracts throughout its near seven minute duration. The latter half of the release comes from Ecuadorian producer Jose Wated, whose remix opts for jazzy drum rolls, drawn out, delayed and pitched vocals, and expansive reverbs to create a raw, stripped overview. Next comes Dick Diamonds Re-Drum, which is fueled by warbling bass and is swirling in pitched vocal snippets and a has profound dynamic flow throughout the track. Closing out the release, Marin turns in his own rework under his Modest D guise, planting simplistic drums in the depths of the background to then bring intricate melodies to the forefront. The track is built around an amalgamation of bright synth sounds, a brilliant contrast to the original number.
