Hanging On
SR003 welcomes Birmingham Bass connoisseur - Vodex to Seedy Records. Coming with something different to the previous releases, Hanging On has had early support from Toddla T. Title track Hanging On brings the energy. The track is driven by rolling Baltimore breaks, while the bleeps carry the melody and give the track a classic electro vibe thats straight from the 80s. The deep, throbbing sub bass and the melancholic, pitched down vocals are pure UK bass 2016 however, and you can see this one doing the business in warehouses across the country! Second track Badman Tekka starts off with a 4x4 garage house beat, but anyone expecting smooth deep house is in for a surprise when the gangsta ragga sample kicks in and the track drops into a prime-time cut of 125 bpm jungle thats made for the Birmingham crew! Though its got that 98 flavour, its pulled off with just enough techy production values to give it that modern twist. Finally on Superman, Vodex makes one for the hardcore ravers! Energys the watch-word here as Vodex marries 90s techno synths, with a rhythm section that combines the punch of grime with the swing of house. Maybe not one for your warmup sets, but a hard-hitting track that squeezes the best of 25 years of UK rave music into one 5 minute banger.
