Nightingale
by Scott Yanow This is an odd session that should been much more successful. George Adams (on tenor with one appearance apiece on flute and soprano) is joined by pianist Hugh Lawson, bassist Sirone and drummer Victor Lewis for a set of ballads and spirituals. Adams puts plenty of feeling into the melodies, but some (particularly "Bridge Over Troubled Water," "What a Wonderful World" and "Moon River") really cannot be saved.
