Alone in a Crowd
by Jim SmithIf anything sets Catch 22 apart from the myriad other ska-punk ensembles, it's the scorching guitar of Pat Calpin, which transforms Alone in a Crowd from simply another quirky dance record to something bordering arena-sized hard rock. The songs themselves are typically angst-ridden affairs, although "San Francisco Payphone" and the aptly titled "Wreck of the Sloop John B" mix things up enough to keep the listener interested.
