Doorman / Scaramouche
Its time to come home again for the Mason boys with another double A-side release for their imprint Animal Language. Once again its a tale of two very different vibes across this digital platter. 'Scaramouche' has been a Mason live show opener for the last year and has hammered several major festivals this Summer. With its slight Italo stylings, choppy staccato riffing, stomping bass pushes and epic melodic break 'Scaramouche' is the theme to an 80's animated sci-fi series that never was. Stepping out of their spaceship resplendent in lycra Iason and Coen head back to the club, taking things deeper with the muscle bound, bow-tied 'Doorman'. An old school Twilo style tribal groove which arm wrestles with Mason's trademark analogue bleeps, squeaks and bottom end. Add in a mystery guest appearance on vocals and 'Doorman' becomes a looming, bulky meathead of a tune. The refurb on this release sees Scaramouche venture down a dimly lit Goth-metal path with fat crunchy guitars, soaring pads and rock solid drums. If Mason were ever going to be covered by a metal band it might just sound something like this...
