Christmas Eclectic
If you want to hear something different, then this album is for you. It contains an eclectic collection of new songs, some familiar favorites as well as forgotten gems. With some of these songs, we are reminded that they have great relevance for the current state of affairs, considering the economy and the wars that our family members are fighting on our behalf. This is an enchanting mixture of the old with the new. Unlike other artists Nancy Thomas has diversity that exceeds no one else. The theatrical training that Nancy delivers in her songs makes you wonder whether you’re listening to the sultry crooning of Jewel, the soft whispers of Anya Marina, the light and airy voice of Taylor Swift or living life on the fun side with Pink. Each song surprises by being delivered in it’s own unique way to achieve symbiosis with the music and lyrics. As a songwriter Nancy paints a picture through her lyrics that puts the listener right beside her. This way we can all experience the treasured joys of life in her songs, such as Good Old Fashion Christmas and Christmas Lights. These songs are reminiscent of a Norman Rockwell lithograph. Reminding us, that the greatest joys in life come from simple pleasures that can be achieved by each of us. This album however, does not only contain easy listening music. Nancy pulls out the hyper playfulness of life in her original song Sugar Cookies along with the rounded out lyrics of the previously tiny song, Toyland. There is a current twist on the old favorite, Deck The Halls, where Nancy brings into focus the commercial appeal that many find themselves engulfed in, as they mesh together their hurried way of life, while finding joy in common holiday events. Nothing though, is common about the age-old debate that many struggle with, the purpose of Christmas. In her song Do You Mind, Nancy tackles the controversy between religion and commercialism and gives harmonic food for thought to both sides of the question. Leaving us to ponder whether the controversy is worth the energy it evokes in some. As an emerging artist Nancy Thomas takes us on a melodic ride through the gambit of emotions that the holiday can produce and delivers a thoroughly enjoyable journey for the holidays.
