Together, not for the first time, we have what must be a dream team of New York musicians: Joe Quijano, Charlie Palmieri, Cheo Feliciano, Yayo El Indio, Barry Rodgers, Chombo Silva, Jimmy Sabater, Mario Rivera, Charlie Palmieri, Victor Paz, Puchi Boulong, Frankie Malabe, Kako, Orlando Marin and others. But to latin music lovers the world over these are more than just names, they are a magical spell. Most of these guys had worked with each other many times before under the banner of other latin music labels but for this session there seemed to be a new vigour and excitement. Whether is was Charlie Palmieri keeping the music hot, or Joe Quijano and Al Santiago keeping a lid on things we will never know. But what we do know is that these latin jam sessions (descargas) are a moment in time preserved for our listening pleasure for eternity.
