Sister Of The Night
Twirl, the renowned imprint spearheaded by the esteemed duo Alinka & Shaun J. Wright , has consistently cultivated a reputation for delivering exceptional electronic music releases. Building upon their success with a plethora of acclaimed artists such as Kim Ann Foxman, Eli Escobar, and DJ Holographic, Twirl is thrilled to announce the solo debut “Sister Of The Night EP”, from the label cofounder, Shaun J. Wright. After a whirlwind 2023, including killer DJ sets at Movement Music Festival in Detroit, Germany’s premier queer festival, Whole, and opening for the global icon, Beyoncé, at the Chicago stop of the Renaissance World Tour, Wright is kicking off 2024 in stellar fashion. Wright starts the “Sister Of The Night EP” on a sultry note, opening with the instantly catchy ‘Superficial (Is That A Crime)’. “Imagine Jamie Principle & Sexual Harrassment convening at Paisley Park for a rambunctious studio session!”, Wright audaciously proclaims while describing the musical landscape depicted in this flirtatious & funky number. The bawdy lyrics are impeccably matched with snappy LinnDrum percussion, a sensual bassline, and percolating acid. For the second track, ‘Have Mercy On Me’, we travel from the sound of Minneapolis southward through the Great Lakes region, landing squarely back into the sonic realm of Wright’s hometown, Chicago. A mixture of warped acid, frenetic toms, and a driving bassline, are exquisitely stewed. Topped with Wright’s seductively pleading vocals, this simmering number is certain to set any dance floor ablaze. The title track, ‘Sister Of The Night’, beautifully propels us into the heavens with its ethereal chords, swirling arpeggiation, and celestial vocals. Heartfelt and tender, this song is the perfect ending to Wright’s debut EP, showcasing their broad artistic range while providing a glimpse into their future offerings.
