Zulu
by Heather PharesThis version of John Barry's complete score for the 1964 film Zulu is the first digital recording, as well as the first stereo recording, of this work. One of Barry's earliest scores, it is performed here by the City of Prague Philharmonic and the Crouch End Festival Chorus, and is conducted by Nic Raine, who has been Barry's orchestrator since the mid '80s. Zulu is a two-CD set, featuring not only this complete score but also themes and suites from The Cotton Club, The Deep, King Rat, Midnight Cowboy, Frances, Dances with Wolves and others, as well as premiere recordings of "The Tamarind Seed," "Hammett" and "Mr. Moses." Zulu is indeed a special edition, collecting classic and more recent scores from one of the finest composers film has known.
