Gerry Mulligan Quartet At Storyville (Remastered)
by Scott Yanow This live concert from the Storyville Club in Boston features Gerry Mulligan's Quartet in late 1956. Baritonist Mulligan had found a perfect partner in valve trombonist Bob Brookmeyer and (with the sympathetic support of bassist Bill Crow and drummer Dave Bailey) they romp through a variety of standards and group originals including such odd titles as "Bweebida Bwobbida," "Utter Chaos" (their theme song) and "Bike Up the Strand." A fine all-round performance from this cool-toned bop unit. [Originally released on LP in 1956, At Storyville was reissued on an import-only Japanese CD in 2007.]
