Wind and Whispers
by Carol WrightAccording to the liner notes, new age pianist Michael Jones re-recorded themes from his 1982 recording, Windsong. Here, they are presented afresh, with new names, better recording quality, and more panache. On this album, Jones captures the whims, the stillness, the gentleness, and the forces of the wind. His music can describe the rustle of leaves, surface of a pond, the spring of a wheat stock, the gentle tumble of a fallen leaf, the plink of raindrops. The melodic themes are romantic, wistful, or uplifting ("Wind and Whispers"). Jones's deft touch can create vivid images of nature, but they are not surface. Jones's pieces are emotion-laden, so don't be surprised if you find yourself deep in some inner reverie.
