The Top of His Head
by Ted MillsFrith's guitar-based score could fool others initially into thinking this is Bill Frisell, so similar at points is the opening lonely, quasi-western guitar sound to that songsmith. Being a soundtrack album, the CD is full of moody atmospheres, which presumably play great with some images on top of them. These pieces range from synthesizer and guitar drones to industrial environmental collages, including some sound bites from the movie. The most unexpected track comes right in the middle: Jane Siberry taking lead on "This Old Earth," an almost normal song augmented by Frith's rubber band-sounding guitar lead. A less aggressive work compared to his other releases, though not exactly gentle by any means.
