Desperate Measures (Music From The Motion Picture Soundtrack)

by Darryl Cater Director Barbet Schroder conceived Desperate Measures as a sort of Well-Made Thriller, a respectful bow to all the well-worn conventions of the genre. Trevor Nunn's orchestral score remains true to that concept, and its attempts to create suspense are strictly by the book. Even the track titles on the CD read like the outline of a cynical "How to Write a Thriller" textbook: "Unauthorized Access," "Imprisonment," "Escape," "On the Run," "Under Pressure," "Hostages," "Tunnels," "Chase," "Persistence," "Redemption." The only item missing from the archetypal formula is "Overturned Police Car." However, Nunn is an excellent parrot, and he borrows the best tricks from some good suspense scorists ( Basil Pouledoris , John Williams , Danny Elfman ). If you enjoy the genre, you'll probably enjoy this CD -- but don't expect any fresh ideas.
