Monsieur Dimitri's De-Luxe House of Funk
by Matt BorghiDimitri from Paris' 2001 release, Monsieur Dimitri's De-Luxe House of Funk, is a joint release from Mixer magazine, Razor and Tie, and DMC World. Monsieur Dimitri's De-Luxe House of Funk is a funky and lustful mix CD consisting of all kinds of tracks from all kinds of different artists, from ***** to the Brand New Heavies and from UFO to Sir Raymond Mang. As is the case in most of Dimitri's other works, particularly the Astralwerks release A Night at the Playboy Mansion, there is a series of Dimitri's own reworks, remixes, and re-edits. The energy of this recording is fantastic, as it's definitely more funky than disco, like some of the other works in his catalog. But when it comes to disco, there's next to no one who can outmix Dimitri from Paris, and that's the same here with these nearly classic and groovy rhythm tracks. This work is representative of Dimitri from Paris' work, but the Astralwerks release A Night at the Playboy Mansion is probably his best work to get started with.
