O Grande Circo Místico
by Alvaro NederWith music by Edu Lobo and lyrics by Chico Buarque, commissioned by Ballet Guaíra, this CD is the reissue of an LP released in 1983. The wonderful ballet was inspired in Jorge de Lima's A túnica Inconsútil (1938), a touching homage to a certain mystical circus, with profound poetry and existential reflection. Musically speaking, this album had two hits, and all songs are precious jewels, having their interest even raised by excellent interpreters like Milton Nascimento, Jane Duboc, Gal Costa, Simone, Gilberto Gil, Tim Maia, Zizi Possi, and the very Lobo and Buarque. An expensive production, with choir and orchestra and wonderful modern arrangements. Pay attention to the big-band jazz tune "A história de Lily Braun," interpreted by Gal Costa with a beautiful, simple, short guitar solo by Hélio Delmiro. "Beatriz" is a rare moment of sheer emotion, interpreted by Milton Nascimento, which became incorporated into the Brazilian repertory definitively. "Sobre Todas As Coisas," performed by Gilberto Gil, was also a hit.
