Washboard Sam Vol.2 (1937-1938)
by Scott YanowWashboard Sam's recordings are always fun to hear. The good-time music, which also includes occasional lowdown blues, is quite accessible and not all that far from swinging jazz. This CD has 23 selections from three record dates, with Sam (on vocals and washboard) joined by the primitive but effective clarinetist Arnett Nelson, pianist Black Bob, guitarist Big Bill Broonzy, and an occasional unknown bassist. Among the fun numbers are "I Drink Good Whiskey," "Want to Woogie Some More," "Somebody's Got to Go," and "My Woman's a Sender."
