Noche y Citas
Gloria Estrada (guitars), Jose Carlos (accordion, requinto), Alex Bendana (bass), Miguel Ramirez (percussion), Hugo Vargas (drummer) and Marisoul (vocals) are the six talents that make up Los Angeles-based band, La Santa Cecilia. A band that since 2007 have mesmerized listeners with their lyrics on love and heartbreak fused with the inagualable ritmos of Cumbia, Bossa Nova, Rock, Folk, Mariachi, Bolero, Reggae, Afro-Cuban and it doesn’t end there. Their song "Chicle", has been featured in many films and TV shows such as Emmy-award winning series "Weeds" and "Entourage". On December 2010, La Santa Cecilia released their EP "Noche y Citas", which I do admit, me levanto las pasiones! The powerful beats of percussions, drums and accordions found in "La Negra" open this 5-track adventurous fiesta, which by the way, this amazing cumbia fusion will have you dancing from 0:01. Their following tracks "Vengo" and "Uzumaki" are two captivating songs which are meant to have you on your feet. The sweet guitar riffs found throughout "Vengo" will have you disfrutando in a bolero/pasito duranguense inspired track. "Uzumaki", the spanglish-track, is my favorite because of it’s tex-mex, rock-n-roll, cumbia flavors, it literally makes me want to grab el vecino and start a neighborhood party with Piñatas, tacos and Tecate. The slow-paced songs are found towards the ending of this journey, "Finita" and "El Farol". La Santa Cecilia did an amazing job in making me feel as if I were having cream puffs in Paris, when in reality I’m just in my house enjoying their french-inspired song "Finita". "El Farol", on the other hand, took me to the romantic and elegant streets of Argentina. This sensual tango is the perfect closing to a "Noches y Citas" with La Santa Cecilia. (Fabrika)
