Steve James
Steve James is a 16 year old progressive house producer, songwriter, and DJ located near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The average sixteen year old rarely has their musical creations in the top three of Hype Machine, or strewn all over dance music blogs. Considering Steve James has accomplished these feats before reaching his sixteenth birthday, we can safely assume he’s no average sixteen year old. Having fallen in love with dance music in his early teenage years by way of listening to Ultra podcasts of Avicii and Afrojack circa 2010, the young gun began his production journey shortly after and never turned back. His first successful track, a remix of Bastille’s “Pompeii,” garnered national attention in the community via EDMTunes and a top 3 Hype Machine finish. It gave us a taste of the youngster’s poignant and near perfect ear for the new age progressive style, which he continued to fine tune via his increasingly popular remixes of John Legend’s “All Of Me,” Cash Cash’ “Take Me Home,” Lorde’s “Ribs,” and Zhu’s “Faded.” The most recent of these, Steve’s official remix of “Faded,” is one of the premiere examples of what progressive house can be in the new age world of EDM. With its slick melody and gorgeous piano play, Steve masterfully wraps the progressive hood over Zhu’s original, perfectly cradling the catchy lyrics in a truly infectious groove. Big things are undoubtedly on the schedule for Steve James in 2014. The Summer will see the teenage producer release a slew of new material in the form of remixes, original mixes, and a mixtape series. Shortly after, he’ll take to the road to strut his highly touted progressive grooves at live shows around the U.S.
