We started the Balkan Union project to introduce Eastern European culture. Throughout history, many cultures alloyed in this region, so the music is incredibly interesting, beautiful and unique. This is what we’d like to show to the world. We get a lot of inspiration listening to many kinds of music from all over the world. Variety of landscapes and cultures meet through music and it creates a common, single culture based on the similarities between people. László Máthé - bass Born in 1973 in Szeged. Began his musical studies on violin at the age of eight. Continued studying classical music at the age of 17 at the Conservatory of Szeged Faculty of violin, however, other styles also heavily influenced him, so he started playing bass, and then double bass a few years later. He graduated at the Kőbánya Music Studio and was admitted to the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music Jazz out of ten, where he graduated in 2007. He plays in several bands playing jazz, blues, pop, funk and latin music. As a teacher of Székesfehérvár, Lauschmann Dr. Gyula Jazz Music High School he has years of experience in teaching. “The Balkan Union is one of the kindest formations for me, because all the members are old friendship concatenates.” Maria Guessous Majda - singer Mesi was born in 1988 in Debrecen. Daughter of a Hungarian mother and Moroccan father. She’s been studying Hungarian for more than 10 years. As a student of Judith Szebenyi Sarina has achieved great results at National Folk Music Awards, won first prize at the Euroregion Festival and grand prize the Debrecen Children and Youth Festival. Admitted to the Department of Folk Music Academy in 2007. Within the framework of Erasmus spent half a year in Istanbul in 2009, where she studied Turkish folk music. Graduated as a folk artist at the Academy of Music, as a student of Anna Vakler. Won first prize at the Folkbeats National Talent Contest in 2010 and Junior Prima Prize in the category of folk arts and public education. In the same year she released her first album “Rainbow Bridge”. As an artist she’s an integral member of the Yehudi Menuhin MUS-E program by giving art therapy sessions to disadvantaged children. Graduated as a teacher of folk music in 2012 at the Music Academy, where she currently works as a lecturer. “Balkan Union’s enchanted world of music, where folk meets jazz and creates this unique and challenging encounter is really close to my soul. As an traditional folk singer I represent the authentic side in this band of professional musicians. I think those two qualities together give something new and unforgettable experience to the listeners. I highly recommend it! :)”
