Karo Glazer
KARO GLAZER IS ONE OF THE MOST TALENTED YOUNG VOCAL JAZZ ARTISTS I’VE HEARD FOR YEARS NOW.” - THAT IS HOW LARS DANIELSSON EVALUATES HER WORK. HE ALSO ADDS: “THE WAY SHE CARRIES A MELODY AND INTERPRETS THE TEXT IS TRULY UNIQUE, HER VOCAL LOOPING IS ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING! WHEN I HEARD HER FOR THE FIRST TIME, I KNEW IMMEDIATELY SHE WAS AN EXCEPTIONAL PERSON. IT’S A GREAT PLEASURE TO LISTEN TO HOW SHE CREATES NEW RHYTHMS AND SPACES VOCALLY AROUND THE MAIN MELODIC LINE AND TEXT . . . AT THE SAME TIME SHE’S A GREAT COMPOSER. Karo Glazer is one of the most original jazz artists of recent years. She consistently shapes her own, unique, musical language which is peculiar to her only. She is a vocal artist, composer, arranger and producer all at the same time. After the premiere of her debut album NORMAL in 2009, her unusual talent was noticed not only in Poland, but also in Europe as a result of which she went on a concert tour of Europe appearing on the greatest European jazz scenes and promoting her new album. Her name was mentioned by German Der Spiegel and her concerts were covered by TV stations such as: Deutsche Welle and NDR. Concert venues were filled to capacity during her appearances for example on: Women In Jazz, Haarlem Jazzstadt, French Festival du Bout du Monde, Heineken Open’er Festival, Hofer Jazztage, Ingolstadtar Jazztage, Jazz Goes to Town or Dresden Jazztage. The series of concerts in the legendary Quasimodo Club in Berlin is also among her successes. She supported the concerts of such stars as Gotan Project or James Carter. She performed e. g. in Sweden, Finland, Norway, Luxembourg, France, Germany, Netherlands, Austria, Czech Republic or Ukraine and in September 2012 she was a guest star of Mike Stern and his band during a concert in 55 Bar in New York. Karo Glazer cooperates with musicians from all over the world. She collaborated with e. g. John Taylor, Lars Danielsson, Mike Stern, Joo Kraus, Nils Wulker, Klaus Doldinger, Krzysztof Ścierański, Andrzej Olejniczak, Bernard Maseli, Marek Raduli, Marek Napiórkowski or Tomas Sanchez. She is a vocal artist paying close attention to improvisation and exploration of new areas of interest. She has turned her voice into an instrument of outstanding capabilities supported by a 4-octave range of voice and extraordinary musical imagination. Her musical interests know no bounds and in her work one can spot clear influences of artists such as: Joe Zawinul, Bobby McFerrin, Jan Garbarek, Richard Bona or Joni Mitchell. She admits she is fascinated by two issues in music: the problem of rhythm together with its diversity and space and space creation possibilities in music. That is why one can hear in her compositions both African rhythmical divisions and Scandinavian landscapes. In February 2010, she received PAM London Award for her album NORMAL in the category “Debut of the Year” and a special prize for her musical achievements on European scenes. In July 2007, she was designated by an American monthly Singer Universe, selecting best vocal artists, one of the five, most promising vocal artists around the world and, at the same time, the first Polish artist who received this prize.
