Sir Spyro
As a producer, radio host and DJ, Sir Spyro’s Grime accolades span well over a decade. After picking up turntables at his local youth club at age 10, Spyro began playing shows well before he was old enough to open a bank account, instead investing his earnings straight back into buying records. Spyro went on to travel the world as a Tinchy Stryder’s tour DJ before rekindling his passion for producing in 2012, in turn discovering that his grime productions had the full capacity to travel on their own. As a producer, Pitchfork has dubbed Spryo “Grime’s answer to Timbaland.” Indeed, his signature ‘Sounds of the Sir’ beat tag has developed into one of Grime’s quintessential seals of approval, and yet his sound remains markedly varied. From Dancehall-infused Lady Chann club anthem ‘Toppa Top’, to Stormzy’s ‘Big For Your Boots’, the highest charting track on the rapper’s BRIT winning album, Sir Spyro remains one of Grime’s most trusted hit-makers. In 2005 Spyro landed a show at Rinse FM where he spent the next twelve years hosting generations of pioneering MCs and producers. Known for his impeccable mixing and track selection inspired by the likes of Shy FX and DJ EZ, Spyro quickly proved himself crucial to the genre. In 2017 Spyro moved to helm BBC 1Xtra's new prime time Grime Show every Friday night. From serial hit-maker, to resolute tastemaker, Spyro is as dedicated to showcasing the scene as radio’s go-to Grime selector, as he is to producing its catalogue.
