Empathy Test
Empathy test , a.k.a singer / songwriter Isaac Howlett and digital composer Adam Relf, have known each other since they were just a couple of kids playing with Star Wars figures in a quarry in Kent, Southeast England. Having relocated to London, they've been making music together on and off for some time, although nothing that sounded quite as good as Empathy Test. Empathy Test was the result of a conversation about the movie Drive, in which both Adam and Isaac realised that that cold, 80s-tinged electro sound composer Cliff Martinez had showcased with the help of Kavinsky and College, was the perfect starting point for a new collaboration. Over the course of the next few months, Empathy Test picked up their name - borrowed from one of their favourite Sci-Fi films, Blade Runner - and produced a four track EP. They recorded and mixed everything themselves, and using Adam's considerable design talents, created their own iconic artwork. Description Empathy Test draw on contemporary influences such as Purity Ring, Grimes and Chvrches, as well as classic 80s synth pop such as Depeche Mode, New Order and The Cure, to create a dynamic synth-pop sound that’s equal parts light and shade. Alongside their music, Empathy Test also design all their own artwork to create their own, fully immersible world.
