Lindsey Sky
Lindsey Sky is broken. Or so says the lyrics on the plaintive confessional, “Broken” on her debut release, “Stop Don’t Stop.” “I tend to write from a very personal place and a lot of my songs reflect my experiences in life,” Lindsey says. “I’m actually a very happy person but sometimes I find the process of songwriting to be very healing, especially when writing about some of the darker aspects of life.” Despite these reflections, Lindsey Sky has a lot to be happy about. Her debut CD was co-written by Grammy-nominated and multi-platinum selling producer, David Grow, and features guest appearances from American Idol star Matt Giraud and the critically acclaimed hip hop artist, Mikealis. “I was thrilled to work with Matt,” Lindsey says. “I was a fan from seeing him on Idol and he was amazing to work with. Mikealis is also someone I deeply respect so it’s very cool to have these incredibly talented artists on my record.” Recorded in Nashville, the record took almost two years to complete. “It was a labor of love,” says Grow. “Lindsey was coming to terms with a lot of stuff–loss, family issues, larger societal issues, relationships–all while we were trying to make this record. But she has tremendous courage so in the end, her willingness to bare her soul opened the door to a very honest, beautiful record. At the same time, she loves dance music and even those songs resonate with a lot of truth. Even as a young girl, this Westchester, New York native knew she wanted to sing and write. “Music was always such a central part of me,” Lindsey says. “But I was afraid I wasn’t good enough. Eventually, you have to push through those fears. As an artist, I wanted to express the value of life, of giving to others, of experiencing beauty–even the beauty in heartbreak and loss, and basically, creating music from my heart.” And that, she has.
