Eat More Cake
Eat More Cake are a 4-piece electronica band based in Harrow, NW London. Their music combines elements of dance, hip-hop and down-tempo which form the basis for an innovative and unique sound. Their debut single ‘Red Sky’, featuring Alexis Griffith, was released on December 7th and was taken from the album ‘Climb The Ladder, Live The Dream’, due out in 2010 on independent label Urbantorque Recordings. Eat More Cake was formed by Andrew Briggs and Matt Pearn when the duo began writing instrumental dance music in their bedroom studio, adding either vocal samples or employing guest singers as the need arose. As their music matured, they found themselves with an abundance of quality songs. Time and distance did not deter their creative output, even when Andy was studying at University in San Diego, and Matt was living in Wales. On completion of their debut demo EP (written and produced by the pair) they signed to Urbantorque Recordings in 2007. Now their writing style is defined by poignant, challenging and often caustic lyrical content, braced with lush orchestrations and irresistible head-nodding beats; surmised by Ibizan impresario Steve Miller (Afterlife) as "Utterly riveting, fresh, massive, huge and perfect for our times.." and by former head of Sony Music Urban Division, Steve Ripley as "Stunning. I have heard nothing as good for years." On stage, they deliver musical direction into an edgy, accomplished and commanding 4-piece band with band members Alex Lane (Drums) and Owen Charles (Turntables, Ableton) joining Andrew Briggs (Vocals, guitar) and Matt Pearn (Keyboards). Live highlights so far include Glade Festival, The Institute of Contemporary Arts, Hatfield Forum, Camden Barfly, 93 Feet East, Hoxton Bar and Kitchen and Hamswell Festival. They have also developed a strong grass-roots following in their hometown of Harrow, where they frequently headline at The Trinity. Their debut album was recorded and produced using mostly live instrumentation at Eastcote Studios in London by Richard Kayvan. It also features performances by the Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra, conducted and arranged by Youki Yamamoto and recorded and engineered by Matt Howe. Eat More Cake have already appeared on Hed Kandi compilations ‘The Mix 2009’ in the UK and ‘Serve Chilled’ in the US. Debut single ‘Red Sky’ received radio support from Kiss 100 and they have also had a white label version of the track ‘Better Than Everything’ played several times on BBC Radio 1. Having had remixes released on singles by Green Is For Go, Relation and One eskimO, they show no signs of slowing down. If hungry for new music in 2010 there are only three words...
