Changüí Majadero is a music collective dedicated to performing and preserving the works based on the roots of musical traditions from Guantanamo Cuba with a modern/contemporary touch. The instrumentation of Changüí Majadero is traditional with the exception of the bass instead of the Marimbula, which gives the music more of a harmonic definition. Changüí Majadero is a 5 peice Changüí band from Los Angeles California dedicated to preserving the beautiful music & culture of Changüí by bringing you authentic Changüí music deep from the island of Cuba. With its traditional Carribean folk rhythm and melody from Guantanamo, Changüí Majadero attracts people to dance and celebrate life by delivering stunning vocals, fiery bongo de monte solos, marimbula-bass thump, driving guayo and maracas, and blazing tres-cubano solos. Changüí Majadero captures the essence of “musica campesina” of Cuba, inspiring and captivating audiences with its high energy, lyricism, and soulful syncopated swing. The band consist of only the finest Latin musicians Los Angeles has to offer including bass player from Cuba, Yosmel Mentejo, who has played with Orlando Maraca, the Ortiz brothers (of the critically acclaimed LA based salsa band Son Mayor) Alfred Ortiz & George Ortiz. Vocalist from Puerto Rico Norrel Thompson & Los Angeles native Gabriel Garcia (who had the privilage to study & live with Changüí Guantanamo in Cuba) on the Cuban Tres guitar.
